Community involvement

Our school values strong partnerships with our families and community. Parents and carers can get involved through our Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) or by volunteering at our school. Your time and support help make our school a better place for everyone.

Parents and Citizens Association (P&C)

Our P&C is a group of parents, carers and school community members. They assist with school planning, fundraising, events and volunteering. Our P&C works in partnership with our school to promote the interests of our school community. Over the past few years our P&C has worked very closely with the school to improve school life for our students.

In 2025, our P&C President, Mrs Kirsty Hewitt, was nominated for the Public Education Volunteer of the Year Award and was successful in receiving this honour. Kirsty was nominated because she is deeply community-minded and has initiated or strongly supported several key projects in her role. These include the Second-Hand Uniform Shop, where parents donate uniforms and the P&C resells them at affordable prices, tailored to families’ financial situations.

She has also successfully written multiple grant applications, securing funding for initiatives such as the outdoor library space, which features comfortable seating and astro turf. This year, she also secured funding to build an outdoor stage to support school assemblies and performances. Additionally, Kirsty is actively involved in fundraising events, including election day BBQs, Mother’s Day stalls, and Halloween discos.

"The school’s P&C also do a lot to add to the school community including providing a free Breakfast Club 3 mornings per week and help organise events such as the annual Mother’s and Father’s Day stalls, Easter raffles, Halloween disco to help fundraise and support the school. They also run a Second Hand Uniform Shop which is a great way to reuse uniforms and helps families save money. a parent of Ruse Public School
